How the plans are developed…

The pre-made training plans have been something I’ve worked on throughout my career. I feel that there is a better way to guide people rather than suggesting they look up a couch to 5k plan online - which I hear often. I also firmly believe that people who have had bad experiences with running likely didn’t have the right training or preparation, I’ve been there!

The custom training plans are structured entirely around the individual. This idea came into fruition when I signed up for my first marathon in 2021- and- I had no clue how to properly train. I spent a long time researching training plans, talking to friends, family, colleagues and coaches, who have run this distance before and what has worked for them, I read books, listened to podcasts and even went back to some of the material I learned in PT school. Ultimately, I decided to built my own. I wanted to create a program that would fit into my schedule, allowed me the freedom to still do other things I enjoy (ski, hike, garden etc.), while also giving me confidence that when the day comes I feel ready to run a distance that at one point felt impossible. I’ve since then helped friends, colleagues, and clients get into running, run a new distance, or even find a way to fit running into their already busy schedule in a way that feels doable.

As a physical therapist and a strength and conditioning coach, my goal is to design training programs that are multifaceted, evidence-based, and grounded in the principles of movement science. I want to not only help people run further or faster, but also to move better, prevent injury, and build a strong base for long term enjoyment of the sport.

A little background…

Each training plan is named after a mountain I’ve climbed. Looking back, I relate a lot of moments I’ve had on these climbs to moments I’ve had running. For example, El Diente, is a mountain in Colorado that tested my strength endlessly. Allen reminds me of the marathon. It’s not the most popular of the Adirondack mountains and doesn’t have much of a view, but for me, it was the mountain I completed the 46 high peaks on so the accomplishment of doing it was so worth the not so glamorous process.

I have had a lot of fun reminiscing on these moments, both from hiking and running, and thinking about the journey that has brought me here. I hope that you also have moments in racing and in training to reflect on how rewarding the challenge can be, and how important it is to have fun along the way!
